My Parenting Journey
I’ve always said I feel like I was lied to about what parenthood would be like.
I thought that if I was really intentional and did everything the “right” way, then I would be the best parent ever and life would be magical.
Ha!!
Parenthood was what I imagined at first–schedules, sleep training, imaginative play, books, and cuddles.
But it became something more.
It was trusting my gut when something was wrong.
Advocating to be seen by a doctor.
Trips to the ER.
Not meeting milestones.
Specialist after specialist and seeking a diagnosis.
When I wasn’t dealing with medical issues, I was relying on my teaching background to help my children learn to regulate their emotions and manage difficult behaviors. As they hit school age, I had to learn how to best advocate for my kids.
Almost 17 years into parenthood, I am the proud mom of 3 bright, creative, hilarious kids.
Three kids who are also neuro-diverse and on the autism spectrum.
One has cerebral palsy.
All three have different complicated medical issues.
My parenting journey led me to have a deep empathy for other parents, especially those of neurodiverse children.
It can feel lonely. Wanting to be a listening ear, cheerleader, while sharing tips I’ve learned along the way, guided me to becoming a Certified Parent Coach.
I want parents to know – I see you, it’s hard, and you don’t have to do it alone.
I’m excited to be a part of your village and support you as a parent coach.
